“After the bark (locally known as “scippe”), the most commonly built merchant ship beloved by the Ligurians was no doubt the bark -schooner (locally said “scuna”). The bark - schooner, based on the nomenclature contained in the Ministerial Decree n. 320 of November 1872 and in subsequent amendments dated 1879, is described as: “Ship with two vertical masts, the first with squaresails, the second with fore-and-aft sails and bowsprit”.”
